Joplin Trails Coalition Meeting Minutes March 3rd, 2009 President Perry Johnson called the meeting to order at 640pm. Also present were Braden Horst, LeAnn Tomlin, Gary Tomlin, Debbie Johnson, Chip Curtis, Carrie Curtis, Nat Curtis, Tad Curtis, Gary Lowden, Carrie Lowden, Spencer Lowden, Zachary Lowden, Ed Grundy, Jim Collins, Jim Grant, Nicholas Ybarra, Chad Crane, Ruth Sawkins and Denise Lambert. Braden made a motion that the minutes from the January 29th meeting be approved, Debbie seconded. 40 gallons of herbicide are needed. MFA in Neosho will sell to us for 10% over cost Approximate total cost to JTC $800.00. A 10 foot wide path needs to sprayed before the compaction rock is to be applied. We also need to move a guide wire at Leggett and Platt. Empire may help with the cost. Corporate sponsorship is down drastically with the economy. JTC membership drive set for May 1st. We will highlight the new lot at North Street, the new sign and gate at St Louis. Carthage approved phase 1 construction via Blevins asphalt. We have received 2 requests of engineering qualifications for phase 2 and are proceeding. Ruth Sawkins with the YMCA has 2 upcoming events. March 21st the urban adventure race which begins at MSSU. $54 peer couple. March 29. Go green Duathlon at Kellogg lake. $33/$43. Details at rufusracing.com Two events in Neosho. April 18th Neosho Y and Lions club and April 19th Tour de Tick. We purchased a new domain name. joplintrailscoalition.org. It links to our dot org website. We still need more organizations and businesses to link to our website. Carol Green is no longer able to do grant writing for us. There is a CFNPS.org grant writing seminar in St. Louis. Cost is $395 plus gas and hotel. Jim Collins volunteered to do this for us. LeAnn made a motion to send Jim and Debbie seconded. Any further comments on the grant seminar need to be in by March 7th at the latest. New signs are needed, one at Carl Jct and one at North Street. Braden will make with Ed’s supervision once materials are provided. Frisco trail repair north of Zora is scheduled for this month. No parking signs are needed on the trail since cars have been parking on the trail. Webb city and/or Joplin could provide these. We could participate in adopt a highway in area where our trail is to bring more awareness. Marble slabs are available for $250 approximately each and could be used for benches on the Ruby Jack The rt 66/boomtown marathon will not be held this year do to lack of sponsorship.. The ½ marathon (5k) will still be held. Volunteers are needed for Friday June 12th evening and or Saturday June 13th morning to noon.
