Joplin Trails Coalition Minutes of June 26, 2008 The President called the meeting to order at 635pm. Prior to the Meeting we had $875 in donations for the month of June. During the meeting we received 2 new memberships along with a $1000.00 check from the Joplin Road Runners. Total $1925.00 for June so far. Scott Springer with the Joplin road runners presented JTC with a sizable donation. The Joplin road runners participated in Boomtown Days and utilized the Frisco Trail for their race during Boomtown Days. The Joplin Roadrunners website is www.joplinroadrunners.com. Our booth at boomtown days was a success. We collected several email addresses and generated a lot of interest. We are ready for bids on the Carthage to Leggett Platt portion of the Ruby Jack. Brush removal may need to be included in the bid. We have the state funding secured. 1-3 members plan to meet with Sprenkle engineering. Our attorney sent a letter to a trail blocking offender on the west side of Oronogo. This is the only offender left. If motorized vehicles are observed on the trail the sheriff or Carthage PD are to be notified. Ed has several more “no motorized Vehicles” signs to post. We will order magnetic signs for our work vehicles to use while maintaing the trail. Horses for now will be allowed on the Ruby jack. Care must be exercised to minimize trail damage. We are having problems with drainage on the access trail at the Carthage trailhead to the Ruby Jack. The June 21st work day ran into extremely heavy growth west of CR200. Webb City was asked to help with brush removal however they declined. Our website had a couple hiccups in June but it is back up now. We are noticing many more results when “Joplin Trails” is googled. We are also on My Space. There are many railroad ties near the KS line. Oronogo has requested some for a firing range. We should barter for them. Have Oronogo send their community service workers to help with trail clearing in Oronogo. We need to market the railroad ties. Carthage will have the Maple Leaf Ride listed on their brochure. We need to mail out ride notices to last years bikers. We will have porta potties at the pavilion and a couple along the route. We need to contact Maple Grove Church to ask about using their facilities. T-shirts still need to be distributed from 2007 and we need to follow through with setting benches that were promised to last years qualifying sponsors. We need to contact Carthage hotels to link to our site if they donate. We have the pavilion reserved. The Frisco repairs are holding up. Webb City is repairing the large wash out north of Zora. We will need to plant vegetation when it’s complete. August 18th is the southwest area triathlon (SWAT) at the Carthage YMCA. The Joplin Trolley should add a bicycle rack to the front of the trolley We need tax exempt status if we’re going to buy trail materials. We may be able to use Carthage’s exempt status and reimburse Carthage Workdays are set for July 26th 8am at the north end of the Frisco trail. Park at Crowder or on 7th street. August 9th 8am at Ruby Jack trailhead in Carthage. Our next meeting is August 28 at pizza by stout 630pm. Meeting adjourned at 750pm. Respectfully submitted JTC Secretary
